Tours in and around Exeter
This collection of blog pages was originally put together as suggestions for a group of English language students visiting Exeter with their teacher for a week. It proposes a series of day tours using public transport, both in and around Exeter. Each tour starts notionally through one of the four main gates of the walled city, each heading out in a different direction. It will not always be possible to visit all the sites on each tour in one day and it is suggested that guidebooks and websites are consulted to assess in more detail which stops along the route merit closer investigation. For the larger towns a suggested walk is given to take in the major places of interest and beauty spots. The journey is also considered as part of the tour – double-decker buses careering along Devon's country lanes are a novelty for many visitors and you can see over the high Devon hedges - and there is a description of some of the more interesting sites along the route. In the towns information available from guidebooks is not given in detail and there is more emphasis on personal impressions. For those wishing to see something of the outskirts of Exeter itself a set of walking tours is also being prepared.
