- 1876 Feb 18 Western Times. The Proprietors of the Skating Rink, Victoria Hall, beg to inform the Public that they are not in any way connected with the proposed elaborate scheme for carrying out a Rink in the Magdalen-road.

Victoria Hall being fitted up as a Circus, and therefore not available, the popular festivity will be held in the Magdalen-road Skating Rink, which will be covered and conveniently arranged. The gathering at the Rink will be specially attractive.
- 1878 Feb 27 Exeter Flying Post. Exeter Working-man's Conservative Union. Soiree. To accommodate this monster gathering, Mr. H. Hitt, of Heavitree, came to the rescue, and kindly offered the site lately used as a Skating Rink on the Magdalen-road. The Committee, having carefully inspected the building, determined to accept Mr. Hitt's offer.

- 1612-1818 Magdalen Drop. This was used by the City of Exeter Quarter Sessions which passed at least 14 death sentences of which four are known to have been carried out. It was situated to the east of the corner of College Avenue, in St Luke’s College car park, near the parish boundary mark. The condemned
were transported by cart from South Gate Prison. - 1610 Jul 12 Richard Wilkyns was accused of murdering a man and a woman, causing three people to become desperately ill and killing a horse, a cow and ten pigs through witchcraft. Having been found guilty by Exeter jurors, he was sentenced to be hanged and promptly executed in Magdalen Street (or perhaps the Magdalen drop).
- 1761 Jul 8 Western Flying Post. Executed at Magdalen Road Gallows, Samuel Wish, guilty of the murder of his wife.
- 1783 Sep 26 John Ashbolt and John Lee hanged at Magdalen Gallows for highway robbery near Exwick Bridge. Both were members of the 20th Regiment of Foot
- 1787 Jan 24 Exeter Flying Post. William Fitzgerald, aged 23, hanged for highway robbery at Magdalen Drop
- 1818 Oct 29 Exeter Assizes. Samuel Holmyard, 68 was convicted of forgery of Exeter City Bank £1 note. He was caught attempting to buy a hat, and the trail led to his Sun Lane house where 400 forged £1 notes were found.
- 1818 Nov 12 Exeter Flying Post. Exeter, Wednesday, Nov. 11. Samuel Holmyard and William Davis are to be executed on Friday next, on the Magdalen road; a temporary platform and drop are now preparing, which is to be erected on the spot where the gallows formerly stood. This was to be the first City of Exeter execution for 32 years.
- 1818 Nov 19 Exeter Flying Post. Friday last, Samuel Holmyard was executed on the Magdalen-road, pursuant to his sentence at our late Quarter Sessions, for a forgery on the City Bank. He appeared truly penitent, and met his fate with calmness and fortitude. William Davis, his associate, and who was to have suffered with him, received a respite on Wednesday evening last. Holmyard was the last County of Exeter prisoner from the South Gate prison to be taken to the Magdalen Drop for execution. Co-accused William Davis was sentenced to a prison ship.
